16 - 19 Bursary Funding

Schools and colleges will receive 16-19 Bursary Fund allocations for discretionary bursaries.  The funding for vulnerable student bursaries will be held with the college and spend on agreed amounts with the pupils, carers and staff. The monies will be used to promote independence and support students with their education.

Only students in the following defined vulnerable groups are able to apply for the vulnerable student bursary:

  • In care
  • Care leavers
  • Young people in receipt of Employment Support Allowance or Universal Credit who are also in receipt of Disability Living Allowance or Personal Independence Payments

Schools and Colleges set their own assessment criteria for eligibility for discretionary bursaries.

The Governing Body of Manor Green College has agreed that the 16-19 Bursary is to be used to help promote independence within an individual student's further education and training.

Bursaries will be paid 'in kind' such as transport pass to promote independence travelling or for equipment which is required for specific lessons i.e catering equipment.

This fund is only to support students aged 16 - 19 years old on 31 August before the academic year begins.  The discretionary bursary will be awarded only to individual students identified as requiring financial support.

Applications for the 16 - 19 Bursary should be made to Isabelle Burton, Business Manager.

Appeals regarding decisions made should be in writing to the Headteacher.
